Musical Quiz - Andrew Powell

As Queen Elizabeth became our longest serving monarch Anthony's quiz and music had a patriotic flavour.Instead of our usual 'Jerusalem' we started the evening with 'God Save The Queen'. The choir assisted in our hearty renditions of 'Rule Brittannia', 'Land of Hope and Glory'', There'll always be an England', 'As Time Goes By' (incidentally one of the Queen's favourite songs) and 'We'll Meet Again'. There was much flag waving and we raised a toast to Her Majesty.

Marion started the meeting by presenting Sheila Baker with the silver salver for the member with most winning entries in the WI section of the Horticultural show. More photos of the Horticultural show can be found here. We were thanked for our support of the show, the tea and cakes made a record £515.

Barbara reported that we received £150 contribution from Sid Vale Athletics for our support on the day.
All money from the raffle would go to Denman College.
She has received some enquiries about our cookbook and copies will be on sale at the Autumn Council Meeting.

Adrian Ford, a trustee of the Memory Cafe, told us about the campaign for an Admiral Nurse in the Sid Valley. There is now no local support for Dementia sufferers, whereas previously there was care at Stowford Lodge and 2 psychiatric nurses were available. Approximately 10% of the population of the Sid Valley is either suffering with dementia or caring for someone with dementia. The campaign for an Admiral Nurse for the Sid Valley will be our charity this year.

The craft afternoon on the 26th Sep will be used as a time to clear the crafts cupboard as no tutors are available.

Everyone is welcome to join in with bulb planting by our seat and at Stevens Cross at 10am on Fri 16th Oct.
