94th Birthday celebration
The evening got off to a lively start with an entertaining performance by Deidre Dee on 'The Life and Times of Marie Lloyd'. With numerous changes of hats and accessories Deidre led us through a musical history of the famed music hall entertainer - Marie Lloyd.
Many of Marie's songs have become enduring classics and the audience joined in enthusiastically with the choruses of many such as: 'The boy I love is up in the gallery'
'Oh Mr porter what can I do'
'A little of what you fancy does you good'
'A bit of a ruin that Cromwell knocked about a bit'.
Following Deidre's performance the members enjoyed the buffet prepared by the committee.
A beautifully iced birthday cake made by Pat Steed was ceremoniously cut by Gwwyneth Hansford assisted by president Marion Baker.
The Competition 'A Spring posy in a small vase' was won by Rosemary Hearst, 2nd Marianne Rixson and 3rd Christine Bull.
