MY LIFE ON THE FAIRGROUND BY KAY TOWNSEND
Kay Townsend grew up on a travelling fairground, so the life is in her blood. She took us through the history of travelling fairs, from the old horse-drawn wagons to the modern vehicles needed to transport more complicated machinery and rides. The heyday of fairs has now passed and they are only viable on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, but the tradition continues and the fair is a welcome, if expensive, visit looked forward to by many.
Barbara Poole thanked Kay for a very interesting talk.
