The Actor, the Hyena and Me - Clive Essame
Clive Essame is a writer, director and playwright. He talked of what had influenced him to see himself as part of the mainstream of the able-bodied as opposed to a person living with a disability.
Whilst in Africa he was influenced to use the animals as characters to portray his story. The injured lion Impisi tells the story of a young male lion in his prime, Nkosi. His life is changed forever when he traps his leg in a wire snare. His situation leads him to forge an unlikely friendship with the hyena Impisi, and he learns how to overcome the pits of despair and loss of physical ability in order to flourish and fulfil his potential.
Clive now runs drama workshops and activities for school children based around the story of Impsi. He has also written a play that addresses the issues of mental health
