Hats for Special Occasions - Janet Williams

Janet introduced her talk by explaining how she had started hat making in Zimbabwe and then continued training in London, Indonesia, Ethiopia and New York. There are 4 main materials used for hats - buckram, straw, felt and sinamay. Janet mainly uses sinamay. All hats are made on a twenty two and a half inch block. Janet then demonstrated the art of blocking a brim and crown before the members were able to try on a wide range of hats.
